Celebration of the International Biodiversity Day

On May 14, 2010, at the General School no. 84 "Balcescu”, District 3, Bucharest, took place an action in order to celebrate the International Biodiversity Day.

The event was organized by Mrs. Doina Cioaca, counselor at the General Directorate for Nature Protection and Management of Natural Protected Areas in collaboration with the Ecological Club UNESCO ”Pro-Nature”.

The purpose of the action was awareness of children on the importance of biodiversity protection.

At the event were about 60 children, students of classes I to IV, accompanied by teachers, parents and grandparents. Materials were presented with an educational purpose (power point presentation, videos, leaflets), after that organized in several teams, they started a contest on "2010 International Year of Biodiversity."

Three prizes and a statement were awarded. For this event children prepared models, drawings, essays and suits in agreement with the relevant day.

The event is part of an extensive program of environmental education of the pupils, students and teachers that started over five years ago.

The next action will be dedicated to "The International Day of Environment", which will be held on June 5, 2010.
